Uses · Accounts you already have

Accounts you already have.

With wellknown.id there’s no sign-up form to skip: a site you’ve never used gets a key it hasn’t seen, and asks for more only if it needs it. For sites that only offer Google, LinkedIn or a workplace sign-in, a separate service could connect a persona to accounts you already have. This is a plan, not something that works yet.

How it would work

A sister service, kept apart.

  • Its own service. Connecting a persona to an account elsewhere would be a separate service from wellknown.id ltd, on infrastructure of its own. wellknown.id itself never signs in to Google or anyone else for you.
  • Your choice, persona by persona. You’d connect only the personas and accounts you choose, and could leave them unconnected.
  • The same rules. Like anything using the wellknown.id name, it would keep nothing beyond what your connection needs, and no list linking you to your accounts that anyone but you can read.

Why it helps

Where it could help.

At a site that only knows “Sign in with Google”, you could still arrive as one of your personas.

What to know

Where it stands.

  • Built: signing in with your own key, in every major browser, and on another computer with kivi on your phone: Sign in anywhere.
  • Not built: the sister service.
  • The provider still sees you sign in, as it does with any sign-in with Google.
